Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

Janet,

I remember seeing the Wicker Man at the cinema.

From my memory to get the oranges and things to grow they had to perform
sacrifices and stuff - e.g. Woodward.

Although there are palms and the like growing in some parts of the south
west of Britain, this is exceptional and I would not want anyone to run
away with the idea that this was the norm for Britain.

Certain areas on the west coast of Scotland are warmed by the gulf
stream allowing all sort of semi exotic things to be grown.

However on the East Coast we get Winters down around minus ten and often
minus twenty Centigrade.

Summers are not consistent either. Last year, 1998 it rained all year.
There were not more than 36 hours dry weather in Aberdeen. It was just
cold and wet not even getting into the 70s Fahrenheit. The Weather
forecast even mentioned that Aberdeen had one and a half hours of
sunshine in the first ten days of September. Cutting the grass was
like cutting wet newspapers. Runner (pole) beans rotted in the ground
(twice) and never got to the tops of the poles before the first frost
killed the lot. Just a disaster - you still wanna swop?

regards

Brian
