Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Hi Dawn, (this is my first season gardening, so take my advice with
caution)
>Well, I went to Walmart and bought a little "Gro & Sho light stick"
I bought the very same light 2 weeks ago. Instead of fixing it to the
wall or ceiling like the instructions say to do, I slide a screw into
the slot at each end, attached a sturdy string to each (actually two
old shoelaces) screw, and attached each string to a hook in the
ceiling. I tied the strings with adjustable knots, so I can easily
raise or lower the light depending on the needs of the current
plantlings.
>all think that one will do it, or should I get a second?
I'm wondering the same thing, because I'm running out of space on my
shelf. Anyone know how directly under the light the plants should be?
My onions (lowest priority, so they're at the edges, farthest from the
light) are starting to lean...
>(any suggestions on how close the
>lights
>need to be?)
People have told me about two inches off the top of the plants,
especially when they're young. But I don't know what to do -- my
onions are about 4 inches tall and everything else is 1 to 2 inches
tall! Sometimes I hang the light crookedly (short end over the short
plants) but I don't know if it's helping.
>The broccoli sprouts that we started a week ago are
>already so long that I'm afraid that they will be too leggy... they
>have one set of leaves, and are about 2 inches long... still in the
>dish of vermiculite...
>should I dump these, and start over (since they only took 36 hours to
>sprout all of them, i'll have only really lost a week) or should I
>try transplanting these into my little newspaper pots??
My first set of broccoli (pre-grow light) did the same. But I kept
them, transplanted them and planted them deeper in the soil to try to
shorten them. One is doing well.... I guess you could keep them just
to see if they work, but definitely start a second set of broccoli to
be safe.
Good luck!
