Marking the Squares?

Hi everyone.  I was just curious if everyone marks your squares before
planting or do you just measure them out or eyeball them.  I was
thinking about using string or something this year, but my problem is
that once the seeds come up and are growing well, I put down mulch to
conserve water and that will cover up my square markings anyway.  What
do you think?
