post harvest maintenance

I have pulled my broccoli because my husband got the willies from a
cooked cabbage looper in the broccoli.  Now the square has lots of roots
from the broccoli. Should I pull this all out to prepare the soil for
something else?  I'm worried about disturbing roots from other squares
adjacent to the broccoli square.

Any help will be appreciated.
