I do about the same thing. I got some 3' high 2x4 welded wire and cut
it into 2' long sections. Then I bent them at the one foot mark so that
I had a tall corner of fence one foot on each side and 3' high. I just
move these around as I need them. Somethimes things try to grow through
but a little clipping stops that. I usually clip off the bottom wire so
that I have a row of spikes on the bottom to stick in the ground.

I tend to plant things by size anymore. Radishes and lettuces and beets
in one bed, cukes and zukes and toms in another, Broccoli and cabbage in
another. I may have more of an insect disaster someday because of it but
so far so good...
