Harvesting onions

All my onion tops have fallen over.  Some tops are now totally brown
while some still have green on the tops.  I am planning to dig the
totally brown ones today and set them out to dry.  Do I leave the
greener ones until they turn brown too?  I am wanting to dry these to
use during the winter.
