I tilled some 10-10-10 into the mix of peat moss, top soil, sand, and manure
that fills the bed. About a quarter of a coffee can, in Mel units. Plenty
of N to be sure, but there should be enough P and K as well. The cayenne is
happy, as I mentioned earlier.

As to size, I don't know exactly what variety this is, so there's no telling
how tall they "should" be. All I can say is that they look like big healthy
plants. Not small or spindly.
I have a report on my square-foot corn, by the way. We planted a square of
Bantam with some sunflowers in between, since they are supposed to be a good
companion. A dozen cornstalks in all. The cornstalks on the sunny side of
the square grew the biggest and fastest, and matured first. Pollentation
was clearly a problem, since many of the kernels were undeveloped. The
plants in the back had ears that were all blanks, except for three or four
scattered kernels. Next year, the corn goes in a very large patch with more
space between plants.
