I live in zone 6 and have never grown strawberries. Around here everyone
seems to plant them in the spring and they do very well. Any advice for
me regarding planting the overbearing variety this fall? If so, when do
I plant and do I protect them in the winter? I read in the sq ft
archives about planting in cinder block holes and I am prepared to do
that. I read an article about fall planting and it said that I would
have a spring crop. I read that Ozark Beauty is good for this area
(Tennessee). Would anyone care to share their experience on this
subject?

We have been planting strawberries in the fall since we started to garden
more than 18 years ago. We plant them in beds one plant every 8 inches. We
then cover them with pine straw or straw. We do this in September here in CT
zone 6. where winters are very iffy. The drought pretty much destroyed my
strawberry crop this year and we will be starting another bed or tow in
September. More in the afternoon shade. My strawberry beds are now in full
sun on a south east facing slope. Not a good spot. Hope you can make sense
of this post. (c: basically I'm saying yes go for it. Fall planting of
strawberries works. (c: Bruce
