Re: List of fall crops

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

You just hit on an interesting observation, Kevin. My wife used to be a
notoriously picky eater. Very simple, meats, potatoes, corn or green beans.
"Just like Mom used make." Needless to say, her mom didn't care for most
veggies either, so they never had them. She used to turn her nose up at the
mere mention of a new veggie like "zucchini". Didn't even like tomatoes!
(Geesh! Can you imagine???)

Then this year I started with SQFT and expanded my garden to four 4x4 beds.
I used to have a dinky side-of-the-house garden of 3 tomato plants and 4
pepper plants. This year I had 8 tomatoes, 8 peppers, corn, green beans,
zucchini, cantelope, lettuce, carrots, snap peas, and potatoes.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, she decide she wants to try fresh zucchini. Now
she's hooked. She loves the fresh green beans. She wants me to grow more
lettuce. She's even eating tomatoes occasionally! On top of all that, she's
now going to the local fresh produce market and buying other fresh veggies
to see what she likes. Now for next year she has a whole list of things that
she wants me to plant! (I think I've created a monster!!!)

The moral of the story is that there's nothing like home grown produce. It's
certainly made a believer out of my wife (and that's no small feat! Geez, I
hope she doesn't read this list!!! LOL) I've never heard of some of the
veggies that are discussed in this forum, but I'm considering planting a 5th
square next year of "experimental veggies", things I've never heard of or
have never eaten before. Who knows?!?! I may enjoy brussel sprouts or lima
beans after all!!!

passions!
