Re: New to list

Hi,
Actually, this is the first time I've used cinder
blocks. In all my previous gardens I used landscape
timbers until I read that they leach small amounts of
arsenic. So now I have to think about alkalinity!!
I'll have to read up on strawberries 'cause both dh
and my 10yo dd love the idea of fresh strawberries.
We've always gone to those pick your own farms.
I also plan to plant some of the nastursiums .
As for irrigation I've also always used soaker hoses.
I run a regular hose from the house and also bury it
so I won't trip and it won't be unsightly. I then add
the soaker hose weaving it from each bed. I bury each
hose right in the center of each bed. There is a little
wetness in either end of my paths but that's ok.When
I'm ready to water, I just hook up my main hose and
let it go several hours. I think soaker hoses allow
for less waste of water. Most things I've read about
gardening discourage overhead watering. I have
accidently cut into my soaker hose before but hardware
stores carry yellow plastic couplings to repair them.I
hope I don't repeat that again, but hey life goes on.
