Personally, an effort to level is good if looking at cockeyed lines makes
you crazy. In haste I "plopped" down two 4x8' beds last spring - one was
fine but the other was definately sloping when you looked at both of them
together. I am now digging out the dirt for other use and moving the
slanted bed to a new and carefully leveled location.
It is reccomended by some that you churn up the ground where you put the bed
before you fill it. I was told that if I didn't do that, the drainage would
not be good. Course, my soil has high clay content. We made a humble
effort at breaking up the surface and have not had problems with standing water.
