I have four dogs, mostly large (smallest is 50lbs.), and a small
suburban lot. I have found that both training and fencing have their
place. I decided to approach the fencing part by celebrating the
fence, as it were. Instead of making it inconspicuous, I made it an
architectural statement with good solid cedar posts and boards, and
placed 8 4x4 raised beds within. The dogs now use it as something to
run around when chasing each other.<g>

As for training, we initially didn't worry too much about it, then
regretted it when the dogs were friendly but hard to control. Now we
have a more-or-less continuous training regime that involves taking
one or two of them to classes at any given time. Gradually they are
getting better behaved, and my wife and I have a pleasant time
working with the dog at our weekly lesson. I really look forward to
the classes.
