I wish these boyscouts were coming to my house!

I've used compost and wood chips from the village recycling center,
newspaper, hay, and grass clippings. My spouse complained much about the
hay in my front yard veggie garden, but it really didn't take long to
weather down to a nice unobtrusive mulch. Grass clippings do that within
days and are very tidy if you can spare them from your lawn. I suspect
wood chips are the best for paths, and look the most presentable. I would
not personally recommend carpet. Best luck!
