I have been monitoring this thread and must stick in a word. Yes, ants eat
both strawberries, potatoes, turnips. I can not grow a crop of turnips. As
soon as the root bulbs and shows above ground the ants are at them. When I
pull the root the ants erupt from the soil by the bazillions and you would
never guess they were there doing all that damage underground.
I asked Margaret about this problem and she gave me this advice "> One thing
you could try is dehydrate banana peels, pulverize and mix into the soil
around the turnip area. I've been told the potassium is attractive to the
ants, but it kills them.
Maybe it's ant chocolate. ;-))
