Re: Tomato dehybridizing

Yes, indeed, Sweet 100's are open pollinated. It's listed as such
in the Seed Savers Exchange Garden Inventory. They list only open
pollinated varieties. The parent of Sweet 100's is Garden Delight,
BTW. It's an old, old cherry that is still favored by many gardeners.
Seed Savers Exchange, and a couple of commerical heirloom tomato growers
suggest that varieties be planted 200 feet apart for pure seed. Most
of us can't do that, but what I do is to encase the blooms in
Reemay after hand pollinating with another variety or with its own--
depending on whether I'm after a new cross or just pure seed to save
for the next year. Keith Muelle's tomato page has a section on how
to hand pollinate.
