Kim, You can still grow good transplants in warm So. Calif. I used to live in La Crescenta and grew good ones. The critical time for cool temperatures is at night. Calif. nights do cool into the low 60's and high 50's. If your indoor temps are running above 75 degrees in the daytime, just turn on a small circulating fan and aim it at the transplants. It will cool and move stems--causing them to thicken. There was a study done about fans and transplants--the air movement created sturdier transplants. Good luck. Grow some interesting varieties this year and experiment. That's what gardening all about, isn't it? That and great tasting veggies! Doreen
