I've run across advocacy of this technique several times in garden magazines and elsewhere. I've asked off and on about this idea of 'thicker stems', the point of my question being .. if you plan to bury the stems (and I do) does it really make any difference whether they are a bit thicker or not? I have never had an answer .. perhaps enlightenment will come from this list .. I've learned a lot of goodies from it in other areas. Ed Flynn Maryland zone 7
