Cats in the Veggie Patch

This is what we finally resorted to doing. I was for it all along but my
partner thought it would be a pain to have to move the row cover all the
time. Big bonus w/ row cover is that it helps seedlings stay warmer and
keeps some of the nasty bugs away. We also found that it's a good place to
release some lady bugs. They can crawl out if they are starving, but the
cover keeps them from immediately flying away. And after last year, our
first using soaker hoses, we've decided that is definitely the way to go.

>I have the same problem, Kim. The two cats are my own. They love the
>veggie garden, especially near the compost pile. When I plant seeds
>directly, this year, as my cats are new and young, I bought some
>bird netting that I will drape over wood stakes until the seedlings
>are big enough to withstand their ministrations. I don't know if
>you want to spend the money, but we use soaker hoses along the
>areas in the squares where the seeds are planted. This seems to
>keep them moist enough to germinate and grow up.
>Good luck,
