Mel's beds aren't raised, but some people need raised beds because of soil conditions or drainage problems that are easier to fix with raised beds than by amending the soil for years. I have ok soil without raised beds, but after a few years of gardening the beds have raised themselves, plus we made some instant beds by building forms and throwing in some top soil and compost, etc. I love my raised beds because I don't have to bend as far so weeding and harvesting is easier. >I keep reading on the list about raised beds. Were my glasses dirty when >I watched Mel's videos and read the book? I don't recall Mel's beds being >raised. My SQFT garden does great in flat beds. It is the soil condition >that is important.
