Re: Raised beds and bed borders

Francine,

We started out w/ flat beds (no not the 18 wheel kind) that raised
themselves after 3 years of adding compost and vermiculite and manure, etc.
We also have a bed that we built last year out of cinder blocks and this
year we plan on adding another raise bed by using recycled plastic
"lumber." The only reason we added sides is because we wanted new beds fast
and had a source of free topsoil.

The two long beds that raised themselves do not have sides and work fine.
Only thing we have to watch is that the grass and clover stay out of the
beds. So I'd go without borders if you can.

By the way, one of my cats is named Loki (a curse, believe me -- any time
something is broken or knocked over we say "Loki did it!") and my dog is
named Rhiannon (what better name for a dog than after the goddess of horses
& hounds)
