Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

The benefits as I see it are these: some improvement in space management
versus a no-border raised bed; the ability to raise the bed higher (the
3-block high bed I built for my parents was 2 feet tall, convenient for the
elderly or disabled); A clear delineation between garden and path, which is
nice for children and some of yer smarter pets; support (in the case of
wood) for hoops, plastic, Reemay, trellises, and the like (Bountiful Gardens
used to carry a set of metal brackets you would attach to the beds to
support wires for hoops---plastic, Reemay, shade cloth,
whatever---originally designed by Ed Robinson of 'Have More' plan fame.)
Some people like the look, the convenience for sqft planting, and the fact
that if you build them strong, you have a place to sit!
Those are some of the bennies of border boxing from my POV,
