Re: Melons

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

I tried canteloupes last year, two plants up a trellis and two sprawling
around the ground. The ones on the trellis never gained any size at all and
I never did harvest a single one from those two plants. The plants on the
ground grew 'normal' size canteloupes. I was able to harvest 3 of them.
There were more but the slugs destroyed them just about the time they were
ready to harvest. I didn't knw what was 'getting' them until I went out
early one morning and saw several 'monster' size slugs crawling all over
them. That must be why I had a garter snake living in my garden torwards the
end of the summer. :-)
