Re: potatoes above ground

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

We use Rose collars to grow our potatoes..I snap 2 of them together to make a
ring @1 1/2ft in dameter..place it on the raised bed and cover the seed potato
with 2-3
inches of soil..when the plant gets to @4" above the rings I fill in the ring
with mulch..add another ring (made of 2 rose collars) and keep growing(when
the plant gets to the top of this level; fill it again with mulch and just let
it grow ...I've been known to add another level..but this last season I kept
it as 2 rings high...I got about a dozen potatoes per plant this way. When
the plant dies back is the time to harvest..or you can wait a while ..it won't
hurt them..just unsnap the collars and push aside the mulch.
