Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Hi,
I'm a little behind on my mail, but just wanted to put in my 2 cents worth.
I started two artichoke plants from seed last year. Started them indoors
about 8 weeks before I planted them out. They took about 8-10 days to
germinate, and then they grew indoors like crazy. By the time I got them
outside I had transplanted them twice. I didn't put them into the square foot
garden cause I knew they would take up room, so they went into two different
parts of the yard.
One is by the house and the other is close to the garden. The one by the
garden didn't do so well and I wonder if it got too much sunlight. It sent up
a sigle flower early on, and the plant itself never got very big.
The one by the house got a nice fern look to it by the end of the season and
was about 2 1/2 feet across. It looks like an ornamental of some sort. It
never sent up any flower stalks though.
I mulched both of them well for the winter and am anxious to see if they made
it through the winter.
Plans are to plant a couple of more this year, probably near the house.
