Re: Artichokes

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

Denese,
Are your artichokes still alive in this weather? I thought they were only
hardy to about 25F? If so, I'll be encouraged to leave mine in the garden
next fall. I live in Springfield, IL zone 5b, where it's snowing like crazy
now! Did you grow Imperial Star artichokes? That's the variety I seeded,
because it's supposed to produce within one season. When I grew artichokes
in a tropical climate in Texas, they did terrific. They loved full sun and
got huge. I had so many blossoms that that let some bloom. We couldn't eat
them all. The flowers are an electric blue and gorgeous. You can dry them
for arrangements, too. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
