Re: Artichokes

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

Doreen,

>>>>Are your artichokes still alive in this weather? I thought they were only
hardy to about 25F? If so, I'll be encouraged to leave mine in the garden
next fall. I live in Springfield, IL zone 5b, where it's snowing like crazy
now! Did you grow Imperial Star artichokes? <<<<

I thought that they had to be one season plants also, but then someone told me
that if you mulch them well, they can make it another season. So we tried
it. I piled a lot of leaves on top of mine and right now, under the leaves,
they look like this pathetic blob of goo, but I'm just trying it out. If it
doesn't work, oh well.

The type I planted was Green Globe, and we didn't get any chokes to eat. Just
one flower that we let go to long so we didn't get to eat it or watch it
bloom. LOL

Denese (near Cincinnati, zone 6 almost 5)
