RE: De again

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

Marketing is the major determinant in pricing of most durable goods. As an
example, walk into any Hardware store and look for Marine Silicone. It's
right next to the HouseHold Silicone and the Glass and Tile Silicone. Now
look at the contents. 100% silicone. I know from personal knowledge that the
contents of every tube on the rack will do the same job in any circumstance.
But look at the price of the one marked "Marine". Depending on where you
live it will be from 30 to 300% higher priced. The higher the bracket of the
nearest marina is the variable.

Supply and demand isn't a factor, the printing of the word "Marine" on the
package is the factor which determines the price.

Short of someone showing me clear evidence of a -mechanism- that would cause
Pool DE to not have sharp microscopic Diatom remnants, or exhaustive proof
that it just doesn't work to kill bugs that AG grade DE clearly -does- kill,
I will keep my cynicism running at full power.

Saying that it is calcinated, without explanation, is like saying that it is
full of Magic Sprites. What do you mean by calcinated, how do you know that
Pool DE has that quality, and why would that stop sharp points from poking
into bugs? Unless there are clear answers to those questions, whether the
base contention is true or not, we are just spreading a myth.

Just my stubbornly held and arrogantly announced opinion.8-)
