And thank heaven SOMEONE did! 

I'll never forget that feeling of a lightbulb going off in my head when I
read in Mel's  introductory information his rationale for the why of square
foot gardening -- how the old row system served other requirements (first
horses getting through there and then mechanized equipment getting through
there). 

When I picked up Mel's book to read, I knew I wanted to garden, but was
feeling really overwhelmed by the whole thing -- how much there was to
learn, let alone do. But similar to Dan's feeling of getting re-enthused
all over again from the list, I got very enthused about gardening with
Mel's book -- I found reassurance that I too could do this -- all from
Mel's book. Now, as some of you are very well aware, I am still struggling
with it, but I'm getting there, slowly but surely.

BTW, some of my seedlings are doing very nicely. Still not quite as sturdy
as I'd like, but it's early yet. I only just moved them to the garage under
lights (and with incandescents to provide just enough heat during our cold
spell) a couple of days ago, and the slower germinators (cauliflower)
today. Like I said -- maybe I CAN do this. ;-)  Thanks to all for their help.
