Hi all. Thought I'd chip in with my $0.02 here.
Since I replace my fluorescent tubes every year, I was out scouting for
them last Friday. At Menard's, I purchased two Sylvania "Cool White Plus"
bulbs and two "Warm White Plus". I think I spent a total of $7, since the
cool white were on sale at 2/$1.
These particular tubes are nice in that they put out 3000 lumens of light
each, whereas many regular tubes (and, I was disappointed to find, many
grow-light tubes) only put out 2000-2500. As you might guess, the higher
the
luminosity of the fluorescents, the better for your babies' growth and
development.
There were in fact other Sylvania cool and warm white tubes that were
a notch above even the ones I bought, at 3300 lumens each. But they were
also a bit more costly, and I'm on a fairly tight budget this spring.
What I'd love to have some of the new fluorescent fixtures which take
_60-watt_ 48" tubes. Those suckers *really* put out some light. Problem
is, the fixtures are like $60+ and the tubes aren't cheap either. *sigh*
Jason
