Jim- I enjoyed looking at your garden. Could you explain just what your
"tea pot" does and how you constructed it? It looks
interesting.

Anyone who would like to see my first year squarefoot garden
go to
       photopoint.com and
      <snip>
The teapot is quite simple. I used a 30gal. Garbage can to hold the
water and stuff. The pipe if you can see it is just a sort of still
chamber to keep stuff from the siphon hose. Originally I was filtering
it into a piece of orlon felt held in a kitchen strainer to get seeds
and stuff out of the tea. I now siphon it sslloowwllyy with a small
diameter hose that allow the seeds to float or settle out and not get
threw the siphon. It takes all night for it to siphon 25gals. or so
into the 55gal holding tank where it further settles leaving nothing but
the chemical and microbial life to get out the siphon. This is what I
water the garden with. I will probably water only on odd days this year
as I have gotten more organic material into the boxes. I had a similar
3 barrel setup to remove solids from machine oil. The only difference
was each barrel got it's input from the bottom and overflowed out the
top to the next barrel's bottom. The final oil was pretty free of
solids. Throughput was deliberately limited to 10 gals. per day to keep
down any the current which would stir up the sediment.
