Jim- I really enjoyed visiting your garden- - I have a couple of questions
if it's ok- What is the SPADD? And how did you happen to come to have a
garden on the side of a railroad track? Also-I am assuming that you are
using your teapot to collect rainwater to water your garden with . Is this
right? By the way I am glad I visited your garden because so many people's
gardens are so pristine and suburban looking that I feel intimidated about
mine-I live in a mobile home and have a small back yard with flower beds and
a few veggies thrown in but my main veggie garden is next door. I am
"borrowing" a little lot behind the laundry room in our mobile homepark near
the clotheslines and the dumpsters and the fence is falling down from the
weight of the grapevines that someone else planted years ago.It is a rather
rustic looking little lot at best. I just pruned back these two nasty
rotting fruit trees that I would just as soon cut down as look at (they
wouldn't let me- anyone know how I can kill a plum and a pear tree quick?)
so that I will get more sun and am adding more beds but even when everything
is is glorious bloom- it still looks like the back of the laundry room by
the dumpsters!!I have grown very territorial about my little lot altho this
is only my second year gardening there. It was knee high weeds, broken
pieces of concrete, and lots of wore and other garbage before I offered to
start a "community garden "( and then PRAYED that no one else would be real
interested-they weren't!) and I have shooed kids and dogs and nosy neighbors
out of there often enough to have developed a reputation as a garden grump
so they all leave me alone except to bring me grass clippings and leaves and
to hope for tomatoes(which they get) It's funny-I love that little lot-I am
plain irrational about it.I know it isn't mine and that any family in our
park could walk in at any moment any set up a bed of vegies or flowers- and
I know I should want to share the space- but I don't want to. I cleared it
and tilled it and set all the beds and made flower borders and paths and now
pruned the damed fruit trees and added a compost bin and planted grass seed
and added a garden bench and - Its mine dammit! I am more than happy to
share the food and they can come to visit(when I'm there) but I don't want
anyone tromping around in there - I wonder what that is all about?I must be
a very bad person.Makes me want to chase em out with the pitchfork! Anyway-
a humble garden that was so prolific and lovely was a welcome sight- thank
you for sharing it Jim-Teri
