I know what you mean about the zucchini taking over.  I "solved" this
problem by dedicating the 2x2 squares for the zucchini in a corner of my
raised bed and then planting it in the corner square.  Much of the zucchini
sprawled over the edges of the bed, but it was better than the ones I had
crowding out neighboring squares planted with other crops.
