        It's just quiet.

        Up north they are digging out, and down here I am busy planting. In
fact, I have a harvest report.
        While the summer harvest was very poor, the fall harvest was better than
expected. Onions, garlics, sweet potatos, gourds, peppers, broccoli, brussel
sprouts and some very good volunteer lettuce. 
        I finally got to dig up the Fungus innoculated test beds and found about
what I expected since the harvests were so similar. Earthworms, insects and
fungus threads were as equal as my methods can measure. I carefully disected a
single cube of the whole thing and for instance got 5 earthworms over 2 inches
long in
each and 10 small earthworms in one and 12 in the non-innoculated one. Equal
enough.
        I did find root knot nematode in both beds, which explains why the
tomato harvest was so poor. I can only guess that my son carried some infected
dirt over in his little shovel, since I started with sterile media.
        Anyway, I ended up with more broccoli and brussel sprouts than I could
eat so we had friends over and loaded them up before they left.
        
        In the last week I have moved my beds around, a major job since they are
a foot high. But now I can add four more in the same space. This will bring me
up to about 160 squares. I still have brussels, strawberries and peppers
growing, and I have planted more lettuce, bush beans, sweet peas, squash and
peanuts, sweet potatos and New Zealand spinach around the edges.
