Hello,

Reconsider removing the sod. Your soil will be full of grubs. It takes one to
two years for the grubs to leave the garden, either by drying out, maturing,
or birds, after soil is lifted. The grubs ruin the veggies by attracting
moles, voles, and other unwanted creatures.

Use only Mel's mix. Do not cover it with anything else. One foot high above
the sod is plenty of space. Any roots that need to go deeper will find a way
to do so.
