| Yes those are concrete blocks, the wood around one of my older 4x4 beds
was
| seriously deteriorating so I put the blocks around the perimeter to hold
| everything in place. Before I put the blocks down I put weed fabric
| underneath, I then just filled the block openings with good soil and
planted
| flowers. One word of caution, the plants require a lot more water than if
| planted in the ground. I also have a block wall two courses high around my
| patio which is level with the yard on the back side. I have planted many
| things in those openings such as peppers, yellow squash and even
| watermelons.
