Depends on where you live. In the low desert we plant it October-November
and grow and harvest throughout the winter. Elsewhere, you would plant it
early enough to have at least 2-3 months to grow before a hard frost. It
will take light frosts. Its productive period is pretty long if you
continually harvest the outer leaves. If you only grow it for one season
it won't bolt to seed (it's a biennial). -Olin
