Many people who save seeds store them in the freezer so cold temperature
should not be a problem. The bigger problems are high temperature and high
moisture. Seeds subjected to flucuating temperatures and moisture levels
tend to lose lose their ability to germinate and, if the seed hull is soft,
may also tend to rot. Fall-seeded frost sensitive-plants may also emerge
too early in the spring and get zapped by frosts. But fall seeding works
pretty well for some things. I suppose if one really wants to plant in the
fall, the best way to find out what will happen in your area is to
experiment (as other posts have indicated). -Olin
