I'm not sure-- they certainly do vary in shape--thickest at the end farthest
from the stem. Anyone else out there know?
Actually, I'm surprised you had time to observe it happening--they seem to go
overnight from flowers to baseball bat sized plants!
(But then, I'm a community gardener--the stuff isn't where I can look at it
every day)
