Root Knot Nematodes

Is solarization effective against nematodes?  I have a bad problem with
these microscopic fiends and my agriculture literature suggest planting
marigolds for a year or using chemical control methods.  I don't want to
use the chemicals and I don't want to leave a portion of my small garden
planted in marigolds.  Thus, I want to try solarizing the soil in hopes it
will kill the nematodes.  Any and all suggestions/comments welcomed
