The old joke goes, "If I owned Hell and Texas, I'd live in Hell and rent out
Texas."
It's been about that hot and dry. I'm afraid to peek at the water level in
our well, and only water the newly planted and plants in pots. Peppers
couldn't handle it,.
Time to plant the fall stuff, and it's a joke to think about trying to start
baby plants in our desert conditions.
Some good news, tho. Doreen gave me seeds for a black type of tomato, and
it's still producing along! The grasshoppers and other nasties don't seem
to know what to do with such a strange color and nothing bothers them,
either. They have a tendency to crack when I leave them on the vine, but
they're soooo good!
They (hoppers) ARE really damaging the hibiscus, ringing the flowers right
at the base and sucking them dry. I'm using diatomaceous earth on them, but
does anyone else have any suggestions?
The clock/thermometer in town read 107 Saturday! Who knows what that made
the heat index! How are the rest of ya'll coping?
