Re: type of soil to use



Another plus for the raised beds is that they help keep the Bermuda grass
out of the beds.  It is much easier to pull from the raised beds than the
ones at or near ground level.  Also soccer balls etc roll into them less.
I do believe that improving your own soil is best however that is not what
I have done.  I built 2 of my 4 4x4 squares with the soil mix from the
book.  The other two I bought soil for and have started amending it.  My
beds are in a 30ft x 30ft "play area" for the kids.  The ground in the
"play area" is covered by about 8 inches of playground mulch.  The raised
beds are framed by 2x12's that stick out of the playground mulch about 6
inches.  Building it in the play area allows me to push my 2 year old on
the swing and garden at the same time :-)
