What to do with my Straw Bales?

I have one of those newbie questions for you.  ::sigh::

I have several square bales of wheat straw we used for another purpose.
They've gotten thoroughly wet several times (a little wheatgrass growing on
top, even), and are even a little moldy (not a lot). My question: should I
vanquish these to the compost bin, or could I use them as mulch? Would love
to mulch with them, but am leery of the mold situtation.

Thanks ever so much -- for help with this, and all the other neat stuff I've
learned here. Ya'll are just great.
