My shredder is made with a carburetor cut off switch that cuts off the gas
supply to the carburetor, which is then allowed to run dry. I turn the
simple switch at the end of every shredding session, so there is never gas
in the carburetor during storage.....
You might be able to retrofit your machine with such a switch in the gas
line to the carburetor; or, use small amounts of gas and run the machine dry
from the gas tank, which would also work, but less conveniently...
