Re: OT-Hummingbird Nectar

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

I read something that was put out by the audubon society that it is very
bad for the health of hummers to put food dye into the nectar. They
will be attracted to the red of the feeder itself. They don't need the
nectar to be red as well. Unfortunately I can't remember exactly why
the food dye was harmful, but this article was very explicit I remember
in cautioning folks not to use the dye. Thanks to everyone for giving
me the nectar recipe! Re: the dye - just wanted to pass along the
info. Of course I realize that everyone has their own ways of doing
things. Don't want to step on anyone's toes, just wanted to alert folks
to the possible dangers. Thanks again for the nectar recipe!
