Johnny,

When my daughter took a field trip to an apple orchard, the owner 
told the children to pick the apple by turning the fruit clockwise.  
They did this and the fruit came right off.

As far as beans and peas, I snip them with my finger nail just 
above the blossom end.  I don't know if this is right, but it's what I 
have done for years.
