Re: What happened to my cucumber plants?

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

I had some vanishing cucumber plants about a month ago also. No traces
whatsoever of the plant and no marks of any kind in the dirt. Many replies
to my post about this suggested birds pulling the plant out thinking it was
a worm or even a snake. I never did find out what happened to them and
lost 2 cucumber plants on different days. After the second plant, I placed
some decorative small birdhouse wind chimes (I bought at a CVS Pharmacy for
$2 a piece) on tree limbs that I broke off and pushed into the dirt in
various places in my sq ft beds. The birdhouses had silver tim roofs and
silver decorations and when the wind blew, they served the same purpose as
the old style aluminum pie plates my grandma always used. They seem to
work and added a personal touch to my garden.

Good luck.
