Valerie-  You are in zone 8 with different insects of course. I am puzzled
because here in zone 3 ants are of no trouble and not worth bothering over.
Are the ants in your garden eating things, or cutting them up? (If they are
not harming anything I suggest you leave them be and avoid using ant killer
in your garden soils. )

| moving on to biological means. My father-in-law
| suggested I just put Ortho ant killer around the
| eggplants base. Then the ants won't be able to even
| get to the flowers to eat the stems off. I'll let you
| know how it goes but if anyone wants to suggest
| something natural before I use the Ortho stuff, let me
| know!!
