Re: Corn, beans and squash

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

I can actually help this time LOL I got a new book night before last and it
describes the planting arrangement for the three sisters :) he describes a
system of 7 hills that are 18 inches at the bottom and 10 inches at the top
and 4 inches high space them 4 feet apart. Plant 5 to 7 corn seeds evenly
spaced on the hill. When the corn is 6 inches tall plant 4 pole beans (one
goes in each "corner") do that for 6 hills on the seventh hill replace the
bean seeds with squash seeds and put a bean seed on each side . You can use
any winter squash or even Connecticut field pumpkins he says
The title of the book is 'Jeff Cox's 100 Greatest Garden Ideas" and cost
under $16. It actually has pictures of the arrangements for the Three
Sisters and he reminds you to prepare the hills with compost since the
plants are heavy feeders.
