Re: Eggplant ants

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

Nickie- it isn't poisonous to them- it just scratches theor
exoskeletons(like diatomaceaus earth-but son't put that on your carpets) and
then they dyhydarate- all their juices ooze out- one thing to know- it will
not take care of them immediately- it keeps them at bay once they are
donwm- it takes awahile for all of them to get around to getting the stuff
on them. Here is what I do and it may not be your cup of tea- but I work in
animal rescue and have foster dogs in the house- If things are really bad- I
spray outside with a flea killer for the uard-especially in places where
there is concrete and plain dirt-you could also spary 1 cup pf bleach in
gallon of water on those areas- bleach will not harm plants-altho I am
talking flowers- don't know about vegies and eatable safety. For inside the
house- I have not found foggers to be very he;pful and they get stuff all
over- besides you have to have all areas accesible to the fog- we have pet
rats, birds and fish so this is a hassle- so if I have forgooten to start
doing the mule tream borax and the fleas are hopping all ov er- I get a flea
powder from the HARDWARE store made for inside- you sprinkle it on for about
half housr then vaccum up- make sure to sprinkle under couch-beds- under
cushions on couch etc. Then that kills most of the fleas inside. I use
advantage on the animal- expensive but nothing esle except a dip works .
After I have them mostly killed- I Take muleteam= put it in a large
shaker-like a big spice jar and shake the stuf onto the carpets. under couch
suhions- under beds- between boxspring and mattresses - and swepp it in with
a brooom- I don't let the animals walk on it until it is into the carpet-You
don't have to use a lot- kind of like sprinkling sugar on grapefuit- Vacuum
twice a week and either throw your vaccum bag away each time or put a flea
collar into the vacuum cleaner bag(better idea).Resprinkle once a week and
you will notice a big difference in a couple of weeks-the fleas that come in
will not survive long . But you have to treat you animals and your yard- I
have problems with doing the whole yard becasue I don't want to kill the
good bugs-so I put up with a few fleas.Scratch scratch. You can also
"collect the extra fleas by putting a bowl of soapy water on the floor and
putting a lamp near it to shinme on it and leave it on during the night- the
fleas are attracted to the light- jump up to it and flall in the soapy
water- gotta use soap-. We have an epeidemic of fleas every year here-
Ongoing battle! Don't know if you can use any of this or want to- but this
is what I do and I can live with it.-Good Luck!-Teri
