Close together, 16 per sqft at least, if you need the tender green foliage.
The harvest time is short (before they start blooming), so sow in succession.
About half of a sqft will do for a family. Let some plants bloom for all the
insects and your eye; then, they need a wider spacing, say 4 per sqft (after
you have harvested and thinned out the young plants).
